Dhrupad music includes both singing and veena playing. The gharanas in this music genre are called ‘Bani’. Presently four banis are Gauhar, Khandar, Nauhar and Dagar. These six pages of the theme calendar feature some of the artistes who have worked tirelessly for this music genre and who have succeeded in bringing this singing instrument to the country and abroad. These artists have been selected and introduced to the music lovers by today’s leading and veteran Dhrupad singer Pandit Uday Bhawalkar. I believe music lovers will welcome this effort.
