Swara-Bhimsen : 2023
Pt. Bhimsen Joshi was born on February 4, 1922. So, the last year should have been celebrated as his centenary year. Moreover, it would have been appropriate, if his centenary were celebrated in the ‘Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav’ that he started in 1952. But a virus called ‘Corona’ had gripped the entire world. Everything had come to a standstill. The wheel of time had stopped! Now the epidemic is ending. The world is returning to normal. Halls are full again with the programs of dance, drama, poetry, music, and painting. After a gap of two years, the ‘Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav’, a festival loved by the connoisseurs, is also being celebrated again with full grandeur. What makes it even more special is that this year, the festival will be dedicated to the centenary commemoration of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.
With the intention of celebrating this centenary also through the calendar, this year’s calendar is based on the theme: ‘Swara-Bhimsen’.
